FAQ

Questions we get asked

General

Are classes live or recorded?

Every class is live with a teacher. Recordings are made available afterwards in your portal so you can review, but you are never studying alone from a video.

What do I need to join a class?

A browser and a headset. The classroom runs inside the student portal — there is no separate app to install and no extra account to create.

What if I miss a class?

The recording, the slides and the homework appear in your portal. In a group intake you keep your place; in one-to-one hours you can reschedule with 24 hours notice.

Can I change course after I start?

Yes, once, within the first two weeks — we move your fee across. Tell your teacher or email the office.

Do you do placement testing?

You self-assess your level during registration and your teacher confirms it in the first session. If the level is wrong we move you, at no charge.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes, on completion of the guided hours with at least 80% attendance and all assessed tasks submitted.

IELTS Preparation Course

Do you guarantee a band score?

No, and be careful of anyone who does. What we guarantee is an honest band forecast after the first mock test, so you know whether your test date is realistic.

Academic or General Training?

Both are covered. You tell us at registration which one you are sitting and you follow that stream for Reading and Writing.

Are the mock tests marked by a real person?

Yes. Writing and Speaking are marked by your teacher against the public descriptors, with written comments — not by software.

English for Specific Purposes

Can you cover my industry?

Almost certainly. We have run aviation, nursing, law enforcement, hospitality, mining, software and finance streams. If we cannot staff your field properly we will say so rather than improvise.

Can our company book this for a team?

Yes — a closed group of up to six from one workplace is the most common format, and the needs analysis is done with your manager as well as the learners.

Do we need to share confidential documents?

No. We work from redacted or representative material, and everything shared is covered by our confidentiality terms.

Legal English

Do I need to be a qualified lawyer?

Not necessarily, but you need to be working in or studying law. The course assumes you already know what a warranty is; it teaches you how to write one in English.

Which jurisdiction do you teach?

The English of common-law drafting, with reference to England and Wales and to Australia. We do not teach substantive law.

Is this TOLES preparation?

It covers the same skills and is good preparation for TOLES Higher and Advanced, but it is not an exam course and there is no TOLES-specific practice paper.

Academic English

Will you proofread my assignments?

No. We teach you to find and fix your own errors, and we will discuss a draft with you. Editing work for submission would breach your institution's rules and ours.

Which referencing style do you teach?

APA and Harvard in class. If your department requires another, your teacher will cover it with you individually.

Is this the same as IELTS preparation?

No. IELTS gets you the offer; this course gets you through the first semester. Many students do both, in that order.

Business English Communication

Are the sessions recorded?

Your own simulations are recorded so you can review them, and they are visible only to you and your teacher. The rest of the class is not recorded by default.

Can I join partway through?

Yes — the per-week option exists for that. Units stand alone, though the simulation in unit 15 assumes the earlier work.

General English — Conversation & Fluency

What level do I need?

A2 and above. You are placed after a short spoken assessment in the first session, and moved if the level is wrong — at no charge.

Will you correct every mistake?

No. Correcting everything as you speak destroys fluency. Errors are noted and dealt with in a feedback slot at the end of each session, and tracked on your personal error list.
